My 5 Favorite Albums of the 2000's (Part 2)

3. The Moon & Antarctica, Modest Mouse

Pretentious people sometimes say, "I love their old stuff. They're not the same anymore." I do this with Modest Mouse. I can't help it, though, because it's completely true. No longer do they release albums like The Moon & Antarctica, a record filled to the brim with emotion. Issac Brock, the lead singer and song-writer of Modest Mouse, starts it all off with "3rd Planet" which probably has some of the best lyrics I've ever heard. It doesn't stop there; "I Came as a Rat" and "Life Like Weeds" hits you with more. The Moon & Antarctica is the last amazing album that Modest Mouse released, and it is highly recommended that you listen to it. Oh, by the way, the title is a reference to Blade Runner, one of my favorite films. How great is that?

4. Geogaddi, Boards of Canada

Geogaddi, the second full-length release from Boards of Canada, is one record that brings up several questions; the question of why is pondered upon. While listening to this, I think: I think a lot. Okay, no more existential crap, what we have here is one of the best ambient (Please don't call it IDM) albums ever. Its atmospheric sounds eloquently flow song to song. I don't really know how to explain it other than that. All I can muster up is that it's an incredible album with the ability to make you think about your life and yourself.

5. Maladroit, Weezer

The fallen heroes of music, Weezer, recorded Maladroit back in 2002. It's distinctive for being a heavy rock album, when compared to Weezer's earlier pop works. Maladroit has all of Rivers Cuomo's usual workings: songs about a lonely guy, wanting the girl, etc. However, the guitar-focused songs make it seem more, badass, for the lack of a better term. I realize how  bad Weezer is now, but give Maladroit a chance. Rivers Cuomo was definitely one of the best songwriters of my time, and it would be a slight to him to not have Maladroit here.

Honorable Mentions:

OK Computer, Radiohead
Funeral, Arcade Fire
Yoshimi Battles the Giant Robots, The Flaming Lips
The Second Stage Turbine Blade, Coheed and Cambria
Drukqs, Aphex Twin
